In Ontario someone in need of immediate help with his/her addiction can be admitted to a local area detox facility with as little as a one or two day waiting period. The detox stay usually lasts between three and seven days. However, this is not a solution: it merely provides a one week reprieve from a life long problem. Detox needs to be followed by a significant period of rehabilitation. However, being admitted to one of the government-sponsored 30-day residential programs is not so easy: one must first appear in person to have an assessment done and then be recommended to one of the facilities, where there is an average of a two to four week waiting list, and one must have been abstinent from all drugs and alcohol for at least one week to be admitted.

Intervention Services in Ontario
An intervention is a great act of love! An addiction intervention is a life-saving mission whereby loving family members and concerned friends or employers are educated about addictions and led by a trained addiction interventionist for the purpose of helping the sick loved one with an opportunity to recover. A drug abuser usually does not know he is out of control. He looks at his drug-using peers and his own use appears normal in comparison. He needs objective feedback on his behavior. Drug or alcohol abuse intervention is a process that helps an abuser recognize the extent of his problem. Through a non-judgmental, non-critical, systematic process, the drug addict is confronted with the impact of his alcohol or drug use on others. The goal of drug abuse intervention is for the addict to accept the reality of his drug abuse and to seek help. If you need help finding an intervention service in Ontario please call Canada Rehab today! 1-800-419-7941 |
